I knew this day was gonna happen.
I knew this day would come.
I dreaded it.
I hoped against it.
I’ve rallied for years to stave it off.
I am disappointed in the Obama Administration.
I am disappointed in President Barack Obama.
While many have railed against his pragmatism, I’ve applauded his determination to make CHANGE.
While many have fallen away from his perceived lack of conviction, I’ve towed the Administrative line that “we’re getting things done”
Even while he told Rick Warren that “marriage is between a man and a woman”, I held out hope he would gird our Armed Forces with the men and women who wish to serve, to protect, and to defend, because his lip service said that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was wrong.
Then his “Justice” Department appealed a federal court ruling which stated that it was unconstitutional, and stopped it from being enforced. It’s like Eisenhower’s Justice Department appealing Brown v. Board of Education after the Little Rock Nine started school.
I’ve never had the privilege of serving in the Armed Forces of the United States.
I’ve never had my country tell me that I am unable to serve because of who I am.
But I am a student of history, and the illogical rational which allowed this administration to appeal the suspension of a law it proclaims to want repealed so that more citizens willing to serve in the armed forces to protect our country are forcibly ejected from the military based on bigotry of the majority goes against the very foundation of our country elucidated in the Declaration of Independence and enshrined in the Bill of Rights and the rest of the Constitution.
The Commander in Chief has sacrificed his integrity, which is fine, that is his to do with as he pleases.
But he also sacrificed Lt. Dan Choi on his altar of expedience.
He strangled the careers of men and women when they had finally gasped with deep breaths the air or equality.
And all the words he speaks
or his surrogates spew
taste like ashes.
I knew this day was gonna happen.
I knew this day would come.
Damn, it hurts.
